The news came in last night that we got the $4.7 million put back into the Emergency and Transitional Housing Program almost unanimously! The Governor has to sign the bill to make this official, but there should be no opposition from him. This has been the result of all of the hard work we have done together over the last month, putting calls, and taking trips down to Springfield to talk to our legislators in person. Everyone should be proud and congratulate themselves on the hard work we have done together.  A special thank you to Ryan Dowd and Joe Dutra from Hesed House in Aurora for traveling and lobbying in Springfield twice in three weeks A special thank you to Everette Harris and Mike from Zion Development, and Charmaine Logwood from Shelter Care Ministries from Rockford for making the 5 hour drive to Springfield to talk to their legislators. I hope my music selection didn't drive you too crazy :) And a special thank you to all of you that called your legislators, signed a petition, faxed in a letter, wrote a statement, and filled out a form. This was truly a team effort, and I believe we showed Springfield for the first time that homelessness is not a city issue, but a state issue that effects us all. Attached is a picture of 10 of the 70 leaders that lobbied in Springfield yesterday.
